This Clinical Experience Programme, held in association with the University of Nottingham and Derby City General Hospital, will provide delegates with the invaluable opportunity to learn from the experts the theory behind the disease. In addition and crucially, delegates will have the opportunity to witness the impact of diabetes first hand through interaction with people experiencing diabetes and the healthcare professionals caring for this patient group. Case studies and open discussions are a key to this programme.
Our expert speakers will introduce the pathogenesis of the disease and
discuss current prevention and treatment options as well as the
complications associated with diabetes. The complex inter-relationship
with dyslipidaemias, hypertension, obesity and subsequent cardiovascular
risk will be examined in some detail.
Topics to be covered include:
-
Pathogenesis and aetiology
-
Complications of type 2 diabetes — patient
and physician view
-
Progression of impaired glucose tolerance
to type 2 diabetes — focus on pharmacological management
-
Prevention of type 2 diabetes —the evidence
-
Obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidaemias
in type 2 diabetes — key studies reviewed
